Hello all and welcome. This is an introductory blog to give
some details about my book that was published recently, and an outline of the
process involved from origin to publication.
I have outlined the process via a question and answer format, set out below. I
hope that this gives you an insight into my story and the world of poetry which
Is a part of me.
What inspired this book?
This book, titled Poems of Life & Love, was inspired by the moments
that shaped my life and the expression of the emotions arising from these
experiences, relating to love, loss and the human condition.
What are some of the processes I go through as a writer?
The following are some of the processes I go through as a writer:
1. Observation - Poetry involves the use of observation of situations and
interactions in the creation of imagery that form the word pictures in writing
2. Experiencing the moment - The poetic theme is created based on the
interpretation of real life experiences that lends itself to evoke enduring
images, emotions and memories
3. Emotional Processing - Poetry is essentially the identification of the
emotions arising from any given situation, then the transference of those
emotions to thoughts, which ultimately find their meaning in words.
Do I have a favourite poem from the book?
There are a number of poems which could fall into that category, but if I must
choose one, I would choose My Friend, My Brother. This is because its theme can
relate to anybody at some point in their life, and it addresses through
personification the related emotional chains that restrain us from our true
purpose.
What challenges or struggles did I face when working on this book and how did I
overcome them?
It is true that no given situation is without its challenges or struggles. The
challenges I faced when working on this book were primarily two-fold. Firstly,
it was essential to find quiet moments in the day for writing, away from the
empty noise. Creativity flows best in silence. Thankfully, this is something
which I managed to do.
Secondly, I can best describe writing by comparing it to creating a sculpture.
The more you sculpt it, the more you step back and self-criticise. I overcome
this by realising that nothing in life is perfect, and through understanding
that art is an interpretation by the human spirit.
What is next for me ? Any other projects in the pipeline?
I am currently working on my next volume of poetry, which will be titled Poems
Of The Heart & Soul. All going well, this will be published next year.
Who would I like to thank for helping me with this book?
The biggest thanks goes out to my beloved wife Meyre, who provides me with
endless inspiration, and to whom the book is dedicated.
